An Easter Message from Ukraine

Apr. 16, 2014

Vladimir_DegtyaryovREAD Ministries and Zaporozhye Bible College and Seminary have been partnering since 2004 to train church literature specialists and resource church leaders in southern Ukraine.  This educational ministry is led by Vladimir Degtyaryov who has sent an Easter message and a plea for continuing prayer support:

With a heart full of hope and resurrection victory in Christ, we all greet you from Zaporozhye Bible College and Seminary with creation’s most triumphant cry: CHRIST HAS RISEN! HE HAS RISEN INDEED!

This year, especially, it is a very happy thing that our church calendars coincide and we are, all around the world, celebrating Easter on the same day.  It only deepens the sense of solidarity among the family of God, solidarity we in Ukraine take special comfort in during these traumatic days.

There are at least two definite things I can say about a very turbulent and uncertain situation: 1) God reigns on His eternal throne, and, 2) this is the most decisive moment in Ukraine’s history since, at least, 1918, perhaps ever.

We in the churches come to God with our prayers unshakably grounded on that first great truth, and we are determined, no matter what else happens, not to let our gaze veer from the supremacy of Christ and His all-excelling kingdom. Please pray together with us, in this light, for unity in the churches, powerful testimony by the churches, and the conversion of the Ukrainian people to the saving faith of Jesus.

As for the second “definite thing”, yes, this moment is critical geopolitically. One does not have to be “political”, or compromise the purity of the Gospel, in order to stand up for truth, and it is very clear that the battle in this crisis is between the power of lies and the power of truth. We pray for truth’s victory, and we strive, with God’s help, to speak only truth, whatever the cost. We are all thankful to you for your concerns, your words of encouragement, and your prayers!

So I will close, thanking you yet again for being there for us… especially now. We are one in Christ, and our citizenship is a heavenly one. Let’s continue to uphold each other before the Throne of Eternity, in the assurance of the “Name that is above every name”, the One Who is “alive forevermore”, the resurrected Lamb and Lion of the tribe of Judah, our great Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
